Bone marrow is a spongy substance present inside the bones and is responsible for generating blood cells for the body. The diseases associated with this particular organ mostly entail the same symptoms and knowing about them is necessary as well.

 

Bone marrow is not just a spongy mass present inside the bone cavities; it is responsible for the generation of blood cells of the body. Therefore, if there are any issues with this particular spongy mass, the entire body suffers. Furthermore, there are more than one diseases associated with this organ where due to some abnormality, proper count of blood cells are not produced.

The most common bone marrow diseases are as follows:

Leukaemia: Leukaemia is a disease where due to the abnormal amounts of abnormal white blood cells. These abnormal cells are not able to protect the body against the infections and it can be fatal to the patient. The white blood undeveloped cells area undeveloped as well.

Symptoms of this disease:

  • Fever and a feeling of general illness

Aplastic Anaemia: This condition happens when the bone marrow stops producing enough blood cells. It is a rare condition of the bone marrow where the hematopoietic stem cell gets damaged. This particular condition can develop at any age and its symptoms get worse with time.

Symptoms of this disorder:

  • Nosebleeds and bleeding gums
  • Infections
  • Skin rash
  • Headache
  • You bleed and bruise easily
  • Skin rashes
  • Pale skin
  • Shortness of breathe
  • You can have prolonged infections.
  • Fatigue
  • weakness

Amyloidosis: This is a condition where an abnormal protein called amyloid fibrils develops inside the bone marrow and starts to deposit in other tissues. There are about 20 different types of amyloidosis and all of them are caused due to hereditary reasons.

Symptoms of this disorder:

  • Diarrhoea
  • Weight loss
  • Skin rash
  • Headaches
  • You bleed and bruise easily
  • Fatigue
  • weakness

Myelodysplastic Syndrome: MDS happens when the blood cells inside the bone marrow are formed poorly and do not work properly.

Symptoms of MDS:

  • Weight loss
  • Skin rash
  • Headaches
  • Fatigue
  • weakness
  • Shortness of breath.

Pancytopenia: It is a symptom where all the three types of blood cells: red, white and platelets have a low count.

Symptoms of this disorder:

  • Skin rash
  • Headaches
  • Fatigue
  • weakness
  • Shortness of breath.
  • Bleeding issues
  • Infections.
