Burping or belching after a full-fledged is a common phenomenon among people of all ages. This typically happens when a person consumes food to his heart’s content. In some people, it happens every time they eat whereas some people burp occasionally. If you’ve been burping excessively, there could be two reasons behind the same.

  • More air intake: There are different ways that excessive air can get access to the food pipe. Sucking on straws, chewing gum regularly and ill-fitting dentures are some general reasons for burping.
     
  • Digestive problems: Ulcers in the stomach, chronic gastric, gallstones and uncommonly, oesophageal or stomach cancers can also be the cause of burping.

Eating fast makes air to be swallowed, and thus one of the promising ways to control burping is to eat unhurriedly. Just sit in calm, soothing environment and enjoy eating. This can result in major changes in your burning habits.
     
  • Prevent taking while eating: In most of the cases, people love discussing things and life during eating. Henceforth, it can be said that talking while eating is a general habit. This is not just bad manners but makes the swallowing of excessive air, which can cause burping. A way out is to chew the food suitably, which not just helps stop burping, but also helps in better food digestion by mixing it properly with saliva.
     
  • Replace cold drink with water: Carbonated drinks are found be a major cause for belching. Replacing them with water, tea, or anything noncarbonated is suggested, not just from burping aspect, but also from the heavy sugar intake. Carbonated drinks are nothing but sugar solutions, and are feature no significant nutritive value.
     
  • Avoid straw: If possible, try to drink from a glass and prevent the use of straws for drinking. This decreased the amount of gas intake and helps stop burping.
     
  • Quit smoking: Quitting is known to have a multitude of health benefits, and getting rid of smoking is just one of them.
     
  • Dentures: Ill- fitting dentures can be a cause for belching, and therefore they must be inspected and corrected, if needed, in an individual who has obstinate burping.
     
  • Chewing gum: Constantly chewing gum can lead to burping, and so avoiding chewing gum or sucking on hard candy is another promising way to reduce burping.
     
  • Avoid specific foods: Foods like broccoli, cauliflower, lettuce, sprouts, and lentils are found to generate excessive gas and must be avoided in individuals who suffer from persistent burping.
