Acne vulgaris is basically a skin disorder that may cause pimples. This symptom occurs due to an adverse effect on skin's oil glands.

The transportation of oil to the surface of the skin takes place through a canal known as hair follicle. Pimples emerge out when the hair, oil and cells in the follicle create a plug, which blocks the pore of the skin. This encourages the growth of bacteria that generally reside on the skin multiply in the clogged pore. When your body’s defense system combatsthe bacteria, the region gets inflamed leading to an unattractive pimple.

In most of the cases, these pimples pop up on the face, neck, back, chest and shoulders and may affect adult of any age. There is no clarity of the cause of acne in adults. Acne is majorly of two types:

  • Cleanse your face more often if you have oily skin.
     
  • Take oil-free cosmetics: - Get products labeled ‘noncomedogenic’, which do not encourage the production of closed pores.
     
  • Make a habit of washing after exercising as sweat tends to clog your skin pores and make your standing acne worse.
     
  • Don’t forget to wash your face and other partssusceptible to acne as soon as possible, particularly after cooking hot, greasy food.
     
  • If you use things like hair sprays or styling gels, ensure that you put them away from your face as much as possible as these products have oils that can make acne shoddier. Try to apply water-based products if your skin is prone to acne.
     
  • If you get acne on your chest or back, dodge wearing tight clothes as these can rub against the acne and cause irritation.

Acne Treatment

When it comes to treat acne, there are many over the counter ointments and creams available in the market. According to dermatologists, it is better to choose the ones that contain benzoyl peroxide. Another ingredient, salicylic acid, is found to be highly effective as it helps to dry up pimples.
