There have been several instances where dengue was misdiagnosed as common flu. However, if these symptoms are left as they are, they can escalate into Dengue shock syndrome that can lead to death. Therefore, a proper diagnostic measure should be taken into account when you see yourself or your child going through the aforementioned symptoms.


Now, as you have seen in the introduction that the reason for this disease to happen is due to being bitten by a mosquito that is infected by the dengue virus.  Therefore, the following diagnostic measures are taken:

  1. Physical examination: The general physician checks for physical signs for any sort of bite. IF there is a case of a mosquito bite, the next test is done.
  2. Blood test: A blood sample is taken and then it undergoes some comprehensive tests. If there is a sign of a virus or there are any antibodies associated with dengue, then you are provided the sample.

Treatment options

When it comes to the matter of treatment of dengue, there is no vaccine that exists to deal with it. Therefore, while you are at home, you can take some pain relievers. The other treatment options while you are at home are:

  1. Plenty of fluids
  2. Rest
  3. Getting to the general physician.

The first two points are to make sure that you are healthy enough to adhere to the third point. In case during the first 24 hours, you start to feel any worse, you should reach out to the doctor as soon as possible.
