For the diagnosis of this cancer, your doctor may undertake following examinations-

  1. Pelvic Examination- It is an examination process during which the doctor will enter his gloved finger inside your vagina to feel your pelvic organs and detect the presence of a tumor. Also, the doctor will examine your external genitalia, vagina, and cervix.
  2. Imaging Test-  In this examinations, the test like an ultrasound or CT scan are conducted of your abdomen or pelvis to determine whether the tumor present is cancerous or not.
  3. Blood Test- Blood cancer are undertaken to check your overall health condition.
  4. Biopsy-It is a procedure in which the doctor will remove a small sample of tissue from your ovary and analyze it under a microscope. Through this examination, the confirmation will be given whether you are suffering from this condition or not.

Ovarian Cancer Treatment

The next and most important step in the journey of fighting this life-threatening condition is getting the adequate treatment for it. After a person is diagnosed with ovarian cancer a team of doctor will work on him to choose the best treatment option.  Here are some of the treatment techniques that can be used by the doctors solely or in combination with each other to treat the condition.

Surgery- In most of the cases, it is the first treatment method that is used to treat ovarian cancer. In this method, the doctor takes out a piece of your ovary to determine its stage and see how far it has spread the patient’s body. The extent of surgery requires depends upon mainly upon how far cancer has spread. In this procedure, the doctor may remove the ovaries, uterus, cervix, or fallopian tubes of the patient.

Chemotherapy- This treatment procedure is used to kill the cancerous cells in the body of the person.  It can be used pre or post surgery to kill the remaining cells. In this treatment the patient will receive the strong medications through an IV or in some cases it will be injected into his abdomen. With this injection, the medication is able to go directly to the spot at which the cancer is formed.

Radiation therapy- It is a treatment method in which high-energy-e rays are used to kill the cancerous cell around the pelvic areas. It can also be used before or after treatment when it comes back after the treatment.

Targeted Therapy- It is a specific treatment method that finds and attacks the cancerous cells in particular while putting a minimum possible effect on surrounding cells. The medications given during this therapy works by stopping the cancer cells from growing and dividing any further.

Hormone Therapy- This therapy is used to treat the specific kind of ovarian cancer called the ovarian stromal cancer. In this treatment procedure, the patient is recommended to consume hormones or hormone-blocking medications.
